We have already spent time with Sean MacLeod through “Romeo” and “Cool Charisma”, two tracks that showed his instinct for classic songwriting, warm guitar work, and a very natural sense of melody. With “Light Up The Sun,” taken from his upcoming solo album That’s When the Earth Becomes a Star, he returns with a pop-rock track that feels hopeful, organic, and full of life.
The line “life is a game you just play, so let’s play it well” captures the spirit of the song beautifully. It’s simple, direct, and easy to hold onto, carrying the uplifting mood of the track without feeling forced. Sean writes with a kind of clarity that makes the sentiment feel earned, especially as the arrangement keeps moving forward with warmth and confidence.
The production has a strong organic feel, letting every instrument come through with purpose. The drums sound particularly good, with a natural tone that gives the track both movement and personality. Around them, the guitars bring a bright but slightly edgy indie-rock colour, adding energy to the pop-rock structure without making the song feel too polished.
References to R.E.M. and U2 make sense in the track’s open melodic quality and the way the arrangement carries a sense of lift, but Sean adds his own sharper indie edge to the instrumentation.
