Milena Lainović’s Chapter 3 is the kind of EP that keeps a strong pop heart while allowing its arrangements to move through more sophisticated and unexpected places. Across its tracks, the London-based singer-songwriter and pianist blends funky pop, soul, jazz shades, ethno grooves, and contemporary classical touches with a clear sense of melody, creating a release that feels accessible but never predictable.
Opening track “Through The Air” introduces the project with a bright, airy atmosphere, leaving plenty of space around Milena’s voice and piano. The song feels uplifting and open, with a piano part that quickly stays in the listener’s head, giving the track a warm and hopeful quality. It works well as an introduction because it immediately shows her ability to write something catchy while keeping the arrangement elegant and spacious.
“Find Me” moves into a more soulful and groovy world, with jazzier colours and a rhythm section that gives the song a strong sense of movement. The drums feel especially lively, while the saxophone-like textures bring a lounge atmosphere that makes the track feel richer and more articulated. Even with those more refined musical details, the song keeps a very clear melodic identity, which helps it remain immediate and enjoyable.
With “Solo,” the EP begins from a more intimate place, centred around Milena’s voice and piano, before gradually opening into a more progressive arrangement. The musicianship is excellent here, especially when the guitar parts start adding a more intricate and expressive edge. Still, the song never loses its pop core, which is one of the strongest qualities of the whole project.
“Above All The Ground” feels like the right closing moment, stripping the sound back and allowing Milena’s performance to stand at the centre. The piano and voice approach gives the ending a direct emotional weight, supported by beautiful production and a very controlled delivery.
Chapter 3 is a strong and unusual EP, full of impressive musicianship, thoughtful arrangements, and memorable pop songwriting.
